IDELSON LIBRARY

Overview

The Idelson Library is a carefully chosen comprehensive collection of Jewish content books and DVDs. 

The Idelson Library serves Temple Beth Sholom members with a large collection of fiction, biography, nonfiction, and reference materials. Nonfiction sources are classified according to the Weine Classification for Judaica Libraries and include topics such as Bible, Torah, Talmud, holidays and customs, religion and philosophy, sociology, science, the arts, Jewish literature, history of the Jews, the Holocaust, Israel, and Jews in the U.S. The Library also has a growing collection of DVDs, both fiction and nonfiction.

The Idelson Library has Advanced Accreditation by the Association of Jewish Libraries.

Location

The Main Library is located near the sanctuary. The Library Alcove, which contains the DVD collection and the most recent and/or popular books, is located near the Social Hall.  

Hours of Operation

The Main Library and the Library Alcove are open anytime Temple Beth Sholom is open. However, the Main Library may be unavailable if there is a meeting scheduled.

Checkout & Return

Patrons may check out materials using the self-checkout instructions in the Main Library and the Library Alcove. On Shabbat, library volunteers will help patrons check out materials using a non-writing method.

Materials should be returned in the Book Return cart near the Main Library

Library Programs

The Idelson Library has two very successful programs which are well-attended.

  • Book Reviews
    Each month, November – February, we have a review and discussion of selected book of Jewish interest. Light refreshments are provided. Copies are available for check out. 
  • Film Matinee Series
    Each month, November – February, we show an acclaimed film of Jewish interest, followed by a Question and Answer session. Light refreshments, including popcorn, are provided.
